How to Get a Healthy and Well-Manicured Lawn

Lawn Care Tips From a Professional Landscaper

The lawn is an integral part of a landscape since it mostly covers most of the property, which is a good reason why lawn maintenance should be done on a regular basis. Not giving your lawn the attention and care that it needs will lead to different issues such as pest infestations. If you don’t want to deal with these problems, then don’t overlook proper and consistent lawn care. To help you get started, here are a few processes that you should not forget:

Mowing

Like tree trimming, lawn mowing is essential to keep your grass healthy. It does this by eliminating old, weak, and dead grass shoots to make way for newer and healthier sprouts to grow. Just make sure not to cut too short because this can make your lawn look bare, weaken or even kill your grass, and make it vulnerable to weed invasion.

Watering

As you may already know, mowing will help your grass grow, but you have to ensure that you are not overwatering your lawn! If you’re using a hose, make sure you’re not pouring too much water as this can drown your grass and kill it. At the same time, you should not underwater because your lawn wouldn’t be able to absorb the needed nutrients in order to survive.

Mulching

Adding mulch to the soil will help insulate it, especially when you’re doing it in the late spring to prepare for the heat of summer and in the fall just before winter hits. It limits evaporation, which, in turn, retains moisture and would require you to water your lawn less often. So, if you want to protect your lawn from extreme heat and the chilling cold, add mulch to the soil.

Fertilizing

Your lawn doesn’t absorb all the nutrients it needs just from the soil alone, that’s why you need to supplement it with fertilizer since it contains the three essential nutrients: phosphorus, nitrate, and potassium. Just remember to use granulated fertilizer since it is easier to apply with a spreader.
